            Client trust

            Client trust has to be earned through heavy investment of time on our part in understanding our clients’ needs and adapting our capabilities across practice areas and geographic locations to those needs. We therefore direct most of our investment in client relationships towards building our core, long-term client base. This creates a virtuous circle: high levels of client trust, staff who feel motivated, and strong financial performance.

            We also monitor the level of client trust in our international network of offices. 67% of our work involves our offices in two or more countries, and 20% of our work involves offices in five or more countries.

            Case study: trends in M&A

            Since the credit crunch we have seen strategic, rather than private equity, buyers becoming more active on the multi-billion dollar deals. For example, in a strategic cross-border acquisition by a UK company into China, we represented the company on its RMB11.3 billion acquisition of Shanghai.
